Tim Cooper on The Sashwright Co.

We had such a positive experience in 2022 with Sashwright that when it became clear replacing our windows was our best option to meet various goals and needs, we didn't hesitate to work with Sashwright again. Nothing I wrote about in my review from 2022 was different this time (exceptional work and care around our house and property, clear expectations set and met, feeling heard, superb professionalism), but I did want to highlight something that was paramount with the project this time around.

We have a toddler now, and going way above and beyond with lead mitigation was a critical need for us. When Sashwright worked with us in 2022, my wife was pregnant and Sashwright went above and beyond to ensure lead mitigation was done exceptionally well (which is was), so we were confident to bring them in again. This time was no different. Dave, Matt, and Stephen made something that can have catastrophic consequences a non-issue. There's no question about the quality of their work, especially with old homes. But if you want a team of true craftspeople that not only care about doing a good job, but genuinely care about your priorities for a project and can meet and exceed them, you can't go wrong with Sashwright. It was an absolute pleasure to partner with them again and to know that the work they did kept our toddler (and my wife and I) safe and accomplished the goals we set out to achieve.

If I could give them 10 stars, I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to do so.

Review from window restoration in 2022:
My wife and I moved into our first old home last year, and it was clear our original windows needed some TLC. I can't quite remember how we found Stephen/Sashwright, but we are incredibly thankful that we did, and here's why:

1. We always felt heard. Whether it was during the initial meeting, follow up questions via email, or during the actual project, Stephen and his craftsmen (Randy, Dave, and Carl) truly listened when we had questions or requests.

2. Expectations were always set reasonably around costs, time, etc. This is something that only happens with competent, experienced professionals, and what we expected is exactly what happened in our project.

3. Professionalism. This can be defined in so many ways, but what stood out were three main things: 1) Stephen, Dave, Randy, and Carl all communicated with us and themselves in such a refreshingly respectful, courteous manner (I could hear them through the floor in our basement, since we don't have insulation between the two levels yet); 2) they took great care to be conscientious in the house and on the property, so when they were done each day and at the end of the project, you really couldn't tell they had even been at the house; 3) they clearly are passionate about their work, and that manifested in their excitement in clearly explaining what they were doing whenever we were curious and at the end of each project day.

I feel like it is extremely difficult to find people who will ever care as much about your house as you do, but I really felt like Stephen, Dave, Carl, and Randy did, and we're so thankful they are also superb craftsmen and really decent people. That combination led to a superbly executed project, and we are excited to engage with Sashwright for our Phase 2 sometime in 2023/2024.

Based on Sashwright's terrific reviews, we contacted them to restore the windows in our 1914 home. We spoke with the owner, Stephen Colvin, on the phone and were impressed. He came to our home and did a fantastic job explaining the work he recommended to restore our windows. He sent a bid by email that we liked. We replied by email that we liked his bid and asked for a couple of clarifications. His reply was that he would no longer honor his bid, and said that if we wished to move forward we'd need to also purchase storm windows from him that come without screens, which would add an additional 50% cost to his original bid. From the start, we were clear that our current storm windows are old but function well and we simply wish to restore the functioning of our windows. His unprofessional action of reneging on his bid and adding an unwanted service in order to move forward was unbelievably disappointing, as it put us back to square one.

Michael Feuer on The Sashwright Co.

We live in a historic neighborhood in Portland, a 100-year-old home that was in desperate need of a solution for old leaky windows and doors. The required oversight of the historical society was potentially nerve-wracking, and the in-kind replacement was rather pricey.
Serendipitously right after a terrible ice storm an advertisement arrived in the mail from Sashwright; "Are you freezing your sash off?" We laughed but agreed we were and needed to do something about it.
Steven Colvin the proprietor of Sashwright came out to do a thorough walk-through of the house offering a variety of suggestions that would solve our problems and not break the bank.
We chose to have custom wooden shutters fabricated for the entire house, as well as a new front door and side door.
Several of the storms have a swappable storm/screen panel for change of season.
As we progressed through the measuring, ordering, and installation phases of the project something became clear to us no matter who we spoke with or met on the job. Steven has developed a very special culture among the staff and craftsmen on the job. There's only one way to do the job and that's right. Sash-right. The attention to detail was extraordinary and it was truly a delight to have them work in our home.
I can't speak highly enough of them, and unfortunately cannot give them more than five stars. Stephen runs a great business, supported in the field by skilled craftsmen, Matt, Michael, and Dave. The office management and operations are competently handled by Deborah and Laura.
Some pictures are included but don't do the fine work justice.

We had a wonderful experience restoring our wood windows with The Sashwright! From our very first interactions, the whole team conveyed a high level of expertise and passion for both old homes and beautiful, functional windows. We had The Sashwright install custom storm windows, remove the original wood windows, restore them, and reinstall them. Carl did an excellent job leading both the window removal and reinstallation; the team was very respectful of our home and worked hard to keep it clean and safe during the work. Carl was also very warm, answered all of our questions, and worked very hard to make sure all of our concerns were fully addressed.

The restored windows are BEAUTIFUL. The Sashwright uses very high quality materials and has a keen attention to detail - you can really see the care and attention to detail in the final product. They’re also highly functional - Carl re-balanced all of the windows and window weights so they slide open and shut easily - buttery smooth action.

We asked the Sashwright to re-screen some of the storm windows with cat proof screening. Matt completed this job extremely quickly and that process was completely painless and unintrusive.

Throughout the entire process Deborah did an incredible job running logistics. There were a LOT of moving parts for this work and through her efforts they all came together smoothly. Communication was clear and responsive throughout and there were no surprises.

We are delighted with our restored windows! Thank you!

Hello BB on The Sashwright Co.

Had just the most amazing experience working with Sashwright. From start to finish, Dave was in our house making sure and checking in every day just being really attentive and responsive to his craft. It’s obvious that the technicians are really skilled, but what really made this company stand out was how awesome their employees are. Super communicative and kind people! Dave did an excellent job and our house is so much quieter with way less air leakage after doing repairs to all our windows!
